First Boot and Pairing

basic

When the BassWatch powers on for the first time (or after it is reset), a getting-started wizard guides you through pairing with your WVC base station. No app or phone is needed.

The BassWatch joins your system as an additional controller. Pairing it does not erase your base station's existing setup: any volume knob, WDD-LITE, RTC, saved channel groups, custom names, and settings stay exactly as they were. The BassWatch simply joins alongside them.

Before you start: Charge the watch first. See Getting Started and Charging.

Getting Started Wizard

The wizard appears automatically when the BassWatch is not paired with a base station. Tap to advance through each step, or swipe right to go back a step.

Step 1: Welcome

A welcome screen greets you with "Let's get you connected" and the prompt "Tap to begin." Tap the screen to continue.

Step 2: Before We Connect

This step reminds you to make sure your WVC base station is powered on, nearby, and running up-to-date firmware. Confirm your base station has power and current firmware, then tap to continue.

Step 3: Pair Your WVC Base

The final step shows an illustration of your WVC base station's rear panel with animated wireless ripples, and the instruction:

On your WVC base station, press Reset 3 times until the light flashes.

The Reset button is on the base station. Press it three times in a row until the front-panel light begins to flash, which means the base station is in pairing mode and broadcasting. Then tap Tap to start pairing on the BassWatch.

Note

The base station can only be detected by the BassWatch while its front-panel light is flashing. An idle base station is not visible. If the light stops flashing before pairing completes, press the Reset button three times again to put the base station back into pairing mode.

Once you tap to start pairing, the BassWatch searches for the base station, exchanges secure keys, and establishes the wireless link. When it succeeds, the watch face appears and monitoring is available with live data.

Tip

If pairing does not complete, move the BassWatch closer to the base station, confirm the base station's light is still flashing, and try again. There is no hard time limit: the watch keeps trying until it connects or the screen sleeps (raise your wrist to resume).

What to Expect During Pairing

During the connection process, the BassWatch shows a status header with a message describing what it is doing:

Status / Message Meaning
Pairing... / "Searching for your WVC base station..." Looking for the base station in pairing mode
Negotiating... / "Exchanging secure keys..." Negotiating the encrypted link
Connecting... / "Linking up..." Bringing up the wireless link to the base station
Reconnecting... / "Waiting for data..." Linked, waiting for the first telemetry to arrive
Connected Live data is flowing; the watch face and monitoring take over
Note

If pairing has trouble finding the base station, the display shows "Trouble connecting. Retrying..." and keeps trying on its own. Move closer to the base station and confirm its front-panel light is still flashing.

On subsequent wake-ups, the BassWatch skips the wizard and connects to your base station automatically.

How to Confirm Pairing Is Complete

You know pairing has finished when the connection is live:

  • The watch face shows a connected indicator and a live voltage glance that matches your vehicle
  • Opening monitoring shows the Volts tab with a voltage reading
  • The connection status (in System Info) reads Connected

If the screen stays on a Connecting message with no data, wait 5 to 10 seconds for the first telemetry. If data still does not appear, see Troubleshooting.

Automatic Reconnection

If the BassWatch loses its connection (for example, if the base station is powered off and back on, or you walk out of range), it automatically attempts to reconnect. The screen shows a "Signal lost / Reconnecting to your WVC base station..." message during this process, then returns to the live display once the link is restored.

The BassWatch also includes an automatic channel scanner. If no data has been received from the base station for about 15 seconds, the scanner sweeps every available wireless channel to find the base station again. A full sweep typically adds another 5 to 10 seconds, so the worst-case recovery is on the order of 15 to 25 seconds.

Note

To save battery, the BassWatch keeps its wireless link alive while the screen is dim or off, but if you enable deep sleep (see Battery and Charging) the radio drops while asleep and reconnects when you wake the watch.

Pairing a Different Base Station

If you replace your base station or want to pair the BassWatch to a different one, clear the stored pairing and start fresh:

  1. Long-press the screen to open the menu
  2. Select Advanced
  3. Select Forget Base (then confirm)
  4. The BassWatch restarts and the getting-started wizard appears again

A full Factory Reset (also under Advanced) does the same and additionally clears all your display preferences, watch face choice, and color theme.

Encrypted Communication

The BassWatch supports encrypted wireless communication with the base station. When the base station supports encryption, the two devices negotiate unique encryption keys automatically during pairing. You can verify the encryption status (Encrypted: Yes / No) on the System Info screen.

Tip

If the BassWatch pairs but never starts showing data, the encryption keys may not have negotiated. Use Advanced > Forget Base to clear the pairing and pair again so a fresh key exchange happens. See Troubleshooting for more.
