Overview
The AuralSync app includes a built-in audio tone generator for system tuning and speaker testing. It works independently, with no LF Audio device connection required. Access it from the Generator tab in the bottom navigation.
Constant Frequency Mode
The default mode generates a continuous tone at a fixed frequency.
Controls
| Control | Description |
|---|---|
| Frequency | Adjustable from 1 Hz to 22,000 Hz. Use the slider for quick changes, or tap the frequency display to type an exact value. |
| Volume | Output level from 0% to 100%. |
| Pan | Stereo positioning from full left to full right. Snaps to center when close to the midpoint. |
| Waveform | Choose between Sine, Square, Sawtooth, or Triangle wave shapes. |
| Step Size | Controls how much the frequency changes per slider tick (1, 10, 100, or 1,000 Hz increments). |
Tap the Play button to start generating audio. Tap again to stop.
Long-press the frequency display to toggle decimal precision; useful for fine-tuning around a specific frequency.
Sweep Mode
Sweep mode automatically moves through a range of frequencies over a set period. This is useful for testing speaker response across a frequency range.
Sweep Controls
| Control | Description |
|---|---|
| Start Frequency | The beginning frequency of the sweep. |
| End Frequency | The ending frequency of the sweep. |
| Duration | How long the sweep takes (in seconds). |
| Sweep Type | Three options: Linear (even Hz/second), Logarithmic (more time spent at lower frequencies, matches how human hearing perceives pitch), or Stepped (discrete tones held briefly at each step). |
| Step Size | For Stepped sweeps, controls how many Hz separate consecutive tones. |
| Loop | When enabled, the sweep repeats continuously. |
A progress indicator shows the current position in the sweep and the real-time frequency being generated.
Use Stepped sweeps when you want to listen carefully to a few specific frequencies, or when you are measuring SPL/THD at known test tones. Use Logarithmic sweeps when you want a smooth, musical-feeling sweep across a wide range.
Waveform Types
| Waveform | Character | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Sine | Pure, clean tone | General testing, frequency response measurement |
| Square | Harsh, buzzy | Testing for distortion, checking amplifier clipping behavior |
| Sawtooth | Bright, rich in harmonics | Stress testing speakers across harmonics |
| Triangle | Softer than square, mellow | Moderate harmonic testing |
A live waveform animation shows the shape of the signal being generated.
Background Playback
By default, the tone stops when you leave the Generator tab. To keep it playing while using other parts of the app:
- Go to the app's Settings tab.
- Scroll to the Generator section.
- Enable Play in Background.
The tone will continue playing even when you switch to the Devices or Scan tab.
Be mindful of volume levels when using background playback, especially with speakers connected. A sustained high-frequency tone at high volume can damage tweeters.
