Overview
This article covers the most common issues encountered with WVC, WVC-LITE, and WVC-PRO units and their solutions. For firmware update issues specifically, see the Firmware Updates article.
Base Unit Issues
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| Base unit not powering on | Verify 12V power and remote turn-on connections. Check that the inline fuse is intact. |
| Base unit powers on but no audio | Check RCA cable connections. Verify volume is not at zero or muted. Check if IDS has triggered (status icon on knob/RTC display). |
| IDS keeps triggering | Check voltage and temperature readings. If voltage drops below your Min Voltage threshold during bass hits, raise the threshold or address the power supply. If temperature is high, improve ventilation around the base unit. |
| Base unit loses settings after power cycle | Settings are saved to internal storage automatically. If this persists, try a factory reset. |
Knob Issues
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| Knob not connecting to base unit | Make sure the base unit is powered on. Try moving the knob closer. If pairing was lost, re-pair using the AuralSync app or perform a factory reset on both units. |
| Knob not responding to rotation | Press the top button to wake the knob from sleep. If the knob is in a menu, press Back to return to the volume screen. |
| Knob battery drains quickly | The default sleep timeout is 30 seconds. If you've set a longer timeout or disabled sleep, reduce it in the AuralSync app. See Knob Guide for sleep mode details. |
| Knob display is blank | Charge the knob using the included USB-C cable. If the knob was recently factory reset, press the button on the bottom to power it on. |
| Double-click not switching channel groups | Double-click speed must be fast enough to register. If using a Dual Knob, both encoders cycle groups together by default. |
App and Connectivity Issues
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| App cannot find the WVC via Bluetooth | Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone. The base unit must be powered on. Try closing and reopening the app. |
| App connects but shows stale data | Pull down to refresh the device view. If the issue persists, disconnect and reconnect. |
| WiFi credentials not saving | Make sure you entered the SSID and password correctly. The WVC only supports 2.4 GHz WiFi networks. |
Signal Quality Issues
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| Audible noise or hum in output | Check RCA cable routing — keep signal cables away from power wires. See the RCA Signal Quality article for detailed guidance. |
| Volume sounds distorted at high levels | Reduce RCA gain if enabled. Check your amplifier's gain setting — the WVC outputs up to 2V (or up to 15V with gain enabled). |
| Wireless range is poor | Check antenna connections. Consider upgrading to higher-gain antennas. See Antenna Options and Range for recommendations. |
Vibration Causing Knob Mount to Detach
In high-SPL or competition builds, extreme vibration from subwoofers can cause the WVC knob's adhesive mount pads to loosen or detach — and in severe cases, vibration can interfere with the base unit if it is mounted directly on or near an amplifier.
Symptoms:
- Knob mount coming loose or falling off
- Base unit appearing to power cycle or lose connection during loud playback
- Adhesive glue pads failing to hold the unit in place Cause:
The double-sided adhesive pads used to mount the knob holder (and optionally the base unit) are not designed to withstand the sustained, high-amplitude vibration produced by high-powered subwoofer systems. Mounting the base unit directly on top of an amplifier — which itself acts as a vibration source — compounds this problem.
Solutions:
- Isolate the base unit from the amplifier. Do not mount the WVC base unit directly on an amplifier chassis. Instead, mount it on a separate board, bracket, or panel that is mechanically decoupled from the amplifier.
- Use an isolation board. A thin layer of vibration-damping material (such as rubber, foam, or a dedicated isolation pad) between the mount surface and the unit can significantly reduce transmitted vibration.
- Reinforce the knob mount adhesive. In extreme vibration environments, supplement the included adhesive pads with additional double-sided foam tape rated for automotive use, or use a mechanical fastener if your mount location permits.
- Relocate the base unit. If the trunk or amplifier rack is the primary vibration source, consider mounting the base unit in a less exposed location such as under a seat or in the cabin.Note
This issue is most commonly reported in dedicated SPL competition vehicles or builds with very high-powered subwoofer systems. In typical street builds, the included adhesive mounting is sufficient.
Factory Reset
If your unit is behaving unexpectedly and other troubleshooting steps have not resolved the issue:
From the knob menu:
- Long-press the encoder to open the menu
- Navigate to Advanced → Factory Reset
- The knob will clear all settings and restart
- Re-pair the knob with your base station
From the base unit (hardware reset):
- Hold the reset button on the back of the base unit for approximately 3 seconds until the front light flashes
- The base unit will restart with default settings
- Re-pair all knobs and reconfigure your settings via the AuralSync app
