When the WDD-LITE powers on for the first time (or after it is reset), a getting-started wizard guides you through pairing with your WVC base station. No app or phone is needed.
The WDD-LITE joins your system as an additional controller. Pairing it does not erase your base station's existing setup: any volume knob, RTC, saved channel groups, custom names, and settings stay exactly as they were. The WDD-LITE simply joins alongside them.
Getting Started Wizard
The wizard appears automatically when the WDD-LITE is not paired with a base station. Tap to advance through each step, or swipe right to go back a step.
Step 1: Welcome
A welcome screen greets you with "Let's get you connected" and the prompt "Tap to begin." Tap the screen to continue.
Step 2: Before We Connect
This step reminds you to make sure your WVC base station is powered on and nearby. Confirm your base station has power, then tap to continue.
Step 3: Pair Your WVC Base
The final step shows an illustration of your WVC base station's rear panel with animated wireless ripples, and the instruction:
On your WVC base station, press Reset 3 times until the light flashes.
The Reset button is on the base station. Press it three times in a row until the front-panel light begins to flash, which means the base station is in pairing mode and broadcasting. Then tap Tap to start pairing on the WDD-LITE.
The base station can only be detected by the WDD-LITE while its front-panel light is flashing. An idle base station is not visible. If the light stops flashing before pairing completes, press the Reset button three times again to put the base station back into pairing mode.
Once you tap to start pairing, the WDD-LITE searches for the base station, exchanges secure keys, and establishes the wireless link. When it succeeds, the main display appears with live data.
If pairing does not complete, move the WDD-LITE closer to the base station, confirm the base station's light is still flashing, and try again. There is no hard time limit: the WDD-LITE keeps trying until it connects or you power it off.
What to Expect After Pairing
During the connection process, the WDD-LITE shows a status header with a message describing what it is doing:
| Status / Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Pairing / "Searching for your WVC base station..." | Looking for the base station in pairing mode |
| Pairing / "Exchanging secure keys..." | Negotiating the encrypted link |
| Connecting / "Linking up..." | Bringing up the wireless link to the base station |
| Connecting / "Waiting for data..." | Linked, waiting for the first telemetry to arrive |
| Connected | Live data is flowing; the main screen takes over |
On subsequent power-ups, the WDD-LITE skips the wizard and connects to your base station automatically.
How to Confirm Pairing Is Complete
You know pairing has finished when the main screen appears with live data:
- The Volts tab shows a voltage reading that matches your vehicle
- The connection status (in System Info) reads Connected
- Swiping left or right changes the view, and the mode tabs along the bottom respond to taps
If the screen stays on a Connecting message with no data, wait 5 to 10 seconds for the first telemetry. If data still does not appear, see Troubleshooting.
Automatic Reconnection
If the WDD-LITE loses its connection (for example, if the base station is powered off and back on), it automatically attempts to reconnect. The screen shows a "Signal lost / Reconnecting to your WVC base station..." message during this process, then returns to the live display once the link is restored.
The WDD-LITE also includes an automatic channel scanner. If no data has been received from the base station for about 15 seconds, the scanner sweeps every available wireless channel to find the base station again. A full sweep typically adds another 5 to 10 seconds, so the worst-case recovery is on the order of 15 to 25 seconds.
Pairing a Different Base Station
If you replace your base station or move the WDD-LITE to a different vehicle, clear the stored pairing and start fresh:
- Long-press the screen to open the menu
- Select Advanced
- Select Forget Base (then confirm)
- The WDD-LITE restarts and the getting-started wizard appears again
A full Factory Reset (also under Advanced) does the same and additionally clears all your display preferences and color theme.
Encrypted Communication
The WDD-LITE supports encrypted wireless communication with the base station. When the base station supports encryption, the two devices negotiate unique encryption keys automatically during pairing. You can verify the encryption status (Encrypted: Yes / No) on the System Info screen.
If the WDD-LITE pairs but never starts showing data, the encryption keys may not have negotiated. Use Advanced > Forget Base to clear the pairing and pair again so a fresh key exchange happens. See Troubleshooting for more.
