What Is AuralSync?

basic

AuralSync™ is LF Audio's proprietary wireless interconnectivity technology. It is the wireless mesh that ties every LF Audio device in your vehicle together, so they behave as one system rather than a collection of separate gadgets.

Every LF Audio device that carries AuralSync joins the same mesh. A base station, the knob that controls it, and every display you add all talk to each other over that one wireless link. There are no extra cables to run between them.

How the Mesh Works

One system, many surfaces

An AuralSync system is made up of two kinds of device:

  • Sources, which measure and act. Your WVC base station is a source: it sits inline with your signal, reads your supply voltage and amplifier temperatures, and sets your volume. The SSA Smart Signal Analyzer and the WTH Wireless Temperature Hub are sources too.
  • Surfaces, which display and control. The WVC knob, the RTC Rotary Touch Controller, the WDD-LITE Wireless Data Display LITE, BassWatch, and the AuralSync mobile app are all surfaces.

A surface is not just a readout. Every AuralSync surface can also take control, so you can adjust volume from your dash, from your wrist, or from your phone, and the whole system follows.

Pairing

A surface joins the mesh by pairing with a source. Pairing is a guided, on-screen process the first time you power a new device on: the source is put into pairing mode, the surface finds it, and the two devices establish a secure session. Once paired, they reconnect automatically every time you start the vehicle.

Each product's help section has a step-by-step pairing walkthrough. See RTC: First Boot and Pairing or WDD-LITE: First Boot and Pairing for a worked example.

Encryption

Communication across the WVC mesh is encrypted. Encryption keys are negotiated automatically during pairing, are unique to each pair of devices, and are rotated periodically during normal operation. You do not have to configure anything.

For the full security model, including why the link is not practical to intercept or hijack, see Wireless Security.

Connecting From Your Phone

AuralSync also supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, which is how the AuralSync mobile app talks to your devices directly from your smartphone, tablet, or Android head unit.

The app lets you monitor your system, change settings, rename channels and groups, and install firmware updates.

See the AuralSync App section for full app documentation.

Range and Antennas

AuralSync is designed to work across a vehicle, and in most installations it will reach well beyond it. Range depends on your antenna choice and on what sits between the two devices.

Firmware Updates

AuralSync devices update over the air. When a new firmware version is published, your device can download and install it without being removed from the vehicle, either from the device's own screen or from the AuralSync app.

See Firmware Updates for the current published version of every product.

AuralSync Inside

AuralSync is not limited to LF Audio's own products. Amplifier manufacturers can build the technology directly into their amplifiers, so the amplifier itself becomes an AuralSync source with no external base station required.

See AuralSync Inside for how integrated AuralSync works, or contact us if you manufacture audio products and want to learn more.
