This guide covers the physical installation and wiring of your RTC (Rotary Touch Controller) with a WVC-PRO or WVC-LITE base station.
Before You Begin
You will need:
- RTC unit with the included 3-pin power cable
- A mounted and powered WVC base station
- A suitable mounting location within wireless range of the base station
- Basic hand tools for mounting
For background on placement and how far the wireless link will reach, see Antenna Options and Range and Wireless Range: Real-World Testing.
Choosing a Mounting Location
When selecting where to install the RTC:
- Wireless range: the RTC communicates wirelessly with the base station. Mount it within reasonable range. Metal barriers and dense wiring can reduce signal strength.
- Visibility: the circular AMOLED display is bright and viewable at wide angles, but position it where you can comfortably see it while operating.
- Accessibility: you will use the touchscreen and rotary encoder frequently. Mount it within easy reach.
- Avoid heat sources: do not mount directly on or near amplifiers, exhaust components, or other heat-generating equipment.
Wiring
The RTC comes with a cable that has three wires:
| Wire Color | Connection | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Black | Ground | Connect to a clean chassis ground |
| Yellow | 12V Constant | Connect to a constant 12V power source |
| Red | Remote Turn-On | Connect to the same remote turn-on wire that powers your amplifiers |
- Connect the cable to the rear of the RTC
- Route the wires to your power source, keeping them away from high-power speaker wiring where possible
- Connect each wire to the appropriate source
- Secure the cable with zip ties or clips along its route to prevent rattling
Mounting Options
The RTC includes three mounting options. Choose the one that best fits your installation.
Option 1: Gauge Pod Mount (Included)
A gauge pod that can be attached to a flat surface such as your dashboard using dual-side adhesive or E8000 glue.
- Screws on the sides control the viewing angle: loosen to adjust, tighten to lock
- An additional screw at the bottom (accessible by removing the side screws) prevents the unit from unscrewing due to vibration. Recommended for vehicles with large sound systems
To install: connect the power wires to the back of the RTC, fish them through the hole in the pod, then screw in the RTC.
Option 2: Flat Mount with Nut and Set Screw (Included)
For flush-mounting the RTC into a flat panel.
- Choose a flat mounting location and drill a hole
- Insert the RTC from the front and orient it. The housing has a small indicator marking the top, which you can use to align the RTC while it is powered off
- Thread the included nut onto the back
- Use the included wrench to tighten the set screw so the nut does not come undone
Option 3: 52mm Gauge Adapter (Included)
Allows the RTC to fit into a standard 52mm gauge pod or A-pillar pod.
- Screw the 52mm adapter onto the RTC
- Insert the assembly into your 52mm gauge pod
The adapter is exactly 52mm. Some gauge pods are intentionally oversized, so you may need rubber padding or another spacer to get a snug fit.
First Power-On
- Power on the base station
- The RTC will power up automatically and display a startup animation
- On first boot, the RTC will enter pairing mode and search for your base station
- See First Boot and Pairing for the complete setup process
Verifying the Installation
After pairing is complete, verify your installation:
- The main screen displays the current volume level
- Voltage reading is shown and matches your expected vehicle voltage
- Rotating the encoder changes the volume
- Tapping the screen registers touch input
- Signal strength is reasonable (check in System Info)
If you experience intermittent disconnections after installation, check the System Info screen for signal strength and consider repositioning the RTC closer to the base station.
