This guide covers the physical installation and wiring of your WDD-LITE (Wireless Data Display Lite) with any compatible base station: WVC, WVC-LITE, WVC-PRO, or WVC-PRO 6.
Before You Begin
You will need:
- WDD-LITE unit with its included power cable
- A mounted and powered WVC base station
- A suitable mounting location within wireless range of the base station
- Basic hand tools for mounting and an inline fuse holder for the power lead
The WDD-LITE communicates wirelessly with your WVC base station, so the two units do not need to be near each other or share any signal wiring. Only power needs to reach the WDD-LITE.
Choosing a Mounting Location
When selecting where to install the WDD-LITE:
- Wireless range: the display communicates wirelessly with the base station. Mount it within reasonable range. Metal barriers and dense wiring can reduce signal strength.
- Visibility: the AMOLED screen is bright and viewable at wide angles, but position it where you can comfortably see it while driving. The display runs in landscape orientation.
- Reach: navigation is by touch, so mount the WDD-LITE within easy reach of your hand for swiping and tapping.
- Avoid heat sources: do not mount directly on or near amplifiers, exhaust components, or other heat-generating equipment, and avoid locations with prolonged direct sun.
Wiring
The WDD-LITE is powered by a simple three-wire connection. There is no signal wiring to run: all communication with the base station is wireless.
| Connection | Connect To | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Ground | A clean chassis ground | The negative reference for the display |
| 12 V Constant | A constant 12 V power source | Keeps the display powered whenever the vehicle's electrical system is live |
| Remote Turn-On | The same remote turn-on wire that powers your amplifiers | Turns the display on and off with the rest of your audio system |
- Connect the power cable to the rear of the WDD-LITE
- Route the wires to your power source, keeping them away from high-power speaker wiring where possible
- Match each wire to the correct connection using the cable's markings
- Secure the cable with zip ties or clips along its route to prevent rattling
Run the 12 V Constant lead to your vehicle's battery or constant-power distribution block, and install an inline fuse (a small fuse such as 3 A is more than sufficient for the display's draw) on that lead as close to the battery as practical. This protects the wire run so a short cannot dump the battery or start a fire. The Remote Turn-On lead does not need its own fuse since it follows the amplifier remote circuit.
The WDD-LITE's power board includes reverse-polarity protection, resettable fusing, and automotive transient (load-dump) protection, so it is built to tolerate the noisy 12 V environment of a vehicle. These protections are a safety net, not a substitute for correct wiring: always confirm polarity before applying power.
Mounting
Mount the WDD-LITE in a flat, accessible location where the landscape screen is easy to see and reach. Choose a spot on solid trim or paneling, route and secure the power cable behind the panel, and verify the screen sits flush and does not rattle once mounted.
For the current mounting hardware and exact physical dimensions, see the WDD-LITE product page.
First Power-On
- Power on the base station
- Power on the vehicle accessory circuit (or trigger the remote turn-on) so the WDD-LITE receives power
- The WDD-LITE powers up automatically
- On first boot, it shows a Getting Started wizard that walks you through pairing with your WVC base station
- See First Boot and Pairing for the complete setup process
Troubleshooting: If the first-boot wizard does not appear (the unit goes straight to a Connecting or main display screen), the WDD-LITE is already paired to a previous base station. Open the menu (long-press the screen), select Advanced > Forget Base (or Factory Reset), confirm, and the wizard will reappear on the next boot. This is the same procedure used when moving a WDD-LITE between vehicles.
Verifying the Installation
After pairing is complete, verify your installation:
- The main screen displays live data and the connection status reads Connected
- The voltage reading on the Volts tab matches your expected vehicle voltage
- Tapping a mode tab switches the view, and swiping left or right changes views
- Signal strength is reasonable (check in System Diagnostics)
If you experience intermittent disconnections after installation, check the Signal field in System Info and consider repositioning the WDD-LITE closer to the base station, or moving it away from metal panels and dense wiring.
