Getting Started and Charging

basic

This article covers the first few minutes with a new BassWatch: charging it, waking it, and pairing it to an LF Audio device. Because the BassWatch is battery powered and worn on the wrist, there is nothing to wire or mount. Charge it, wake it, and pair it.

Video Walkthrough

The getting-started video walks through charging, waking, pairing to a WVC base station and to an HPVM voltmeter, changing volume, changing colors, and updating firmware.

In the Box

A charger head and an LF Audio device are not included. You will need a USB-C power source to charge, and a compatible LF Audio device (sold separately) to pair with. See the Overview for the full list of compatible devices.

Charge It First

Charge the BassWatch fully before first use. Ships-from-factory battery levels are intentionally low for storage and transport safety.

  1. Pull back the rubber boot on the side of the watch to expose the USB-C port.
  2. Connect the included USB-C cable to the watch and to any standard USB power source (a phone charger, a laptop port, or a car USB port all work).
  3. The watch wakes and shows a charging indicator. It begins charging immediately.
  4. Leave it connected until the battery gauge reads full.

A full charge from empty typically takes a couple of hours, depending on the power source. See Battery and Charging for charge behavior, battery life, and power-saving details.

Tip

Connecting the watch to power is also how you wake a unit whose battery has fully drained. Plug it in, let it charge for a few minutes, and it powers back on.

Waking the Watch

The BassWatch does not have a traditional on/off switch. To save battery, the screen dims and then turns off after a period of inactivity. Wake it any of these ways:

  • Tap the screen
  • Press the side button (on a dark screen, the first press only wakes it)
  • Raise your wrist (when Tilt to Wake is turned on; see below)
  • Put it on the charger: connecting USB-C power wakes the display

Raise-to-wake is optional and ships turned off. Turn it on in Settings > Tilt to Wake if you want the watch to wake when you lift and turn your wrist, the way a normal smartwatch does. Even with it off, a tap or the side button always wakes the watch.

If nothing wakes it and the screen stays dark, the battery may be empty. Connect it to power and give it a few minutes.

First Boot

When the BassWatch has charge and wakes, it shows a brief startup splash and then lands on the watch face, which shows the time, date, and battery. It works as a watch straight away, before you pair anything.

Until it is paired, the watch face shows two extra cues:

  • A Tap to Pair button. Tap it to start pairing with an LF Audio device.
  • A Settings arrow pointing toward the side button, which opens the menu.

No app or phone is needed to pair. See First Boot and Pairing for the full pairing walkthrough.

Pairing, in Short

Pairing is quick. The steps depend on which device you are connecting to:

  • WVC base station, SSA, or WTH (over AuralSync): put the device into pairing mode first. On the back of the device, press the Reset button three times in a row until its light begins to flash, then tap Tap to Pair on the watch and select it from the list.
  • HPVM voltmeter (over Bluetooth): no button press is needed. Power on the voltmeter, tap Tap to Pair on the watch, and select it from the list when it appears.

Make sure the device you want to pair is powered on, nearby, and running up-to-date firmware before you start. When more than one device is discoverable, the watch shows a list so you can pick the one you want. See First Boot and Pairing for the complete walkthrough and what each pairing message means.

Tip

After a WVC base station is paired, it shares its saved WiFi network with the watch automatically, so the watch can download its own firmware updates without you re-entering WiFi. See Firmware Updates.

Setting the Time

The BassWatch keeps time with an internal real-time clock, so the watch face shows the current time even while the watch is asleep. Set the time (and choose 12-hour or 24-hour display) in the menu under Set Time. See Menus and Settings.

Everyday Use

Once paired, the BassWatch behaves like the rest of the AuralSync display family. Tap the watch face to open monitoring, swipe left and right to move between views, and swipe up from the lower half of a monitoring screen to change volume on a WVC base station. When you are not using it, let it sleep; a tap or a wrist raise wakes it and it reconnects to your device in about a second.

Quick Start Checklist

  1. Charge the watch to full over USB-C (pull the side boot to reach the port).
  2. Tap the screen or press the side button to wake it.
  3. Tap Tap to Pair on the watch face. For a WVC, SSA, or WTH, triple-press the device's Reset button first; an HPVM appears over Bluetooth with no button press. See First Boot and Pairing.
  4. Set the time in Set Time.
  5. Wear it. Tap the watch face to open monitoring whenever you want to check your system.
